College days are always the best time of life. In-between studies, lectures and assignments, we maneuver delicate intricacies of the relationship dynamics. It’s that time, while figuring out what we want to do in life, we also stumble upon the question – who we really are? The choices we make , the relationships we build, the people we come across,  in a form of a friend, a lover, a teacher, a parent or a belief; all turn out being some important decisions in life later!

But there is one underlining truth in all our relationships –

❤️💛💚💙💜 We all want LOVE!  ❤️💛💚💙💜

“Girls chase Boys” by Ingrid Michaelson clearly embodies the meaning of love in a celebrating way. This song focuses on the idea that, it doesn’t matter what your gender or sexual orientation is, when it comes to love, we all celebrate the common notion together. Love is a positive feeling which lies above societal barriers, religions and restrictions. It’s a commemoration of an emotion equally and unequivocally attended by all – Straight, LGBTQ, White, Black, Brown, Yellow or even purple, just for the sake of colors.

The track itself is both a breakup anthem and an indictment of typical courtship patterns. It focuses on the propounding norms of society where men are often allowed a monopoly on heart-breaking privileges and women are presumptuous subjects at the receiving end of the grief. But instead of reifying a gender divide, Ingrid blurs it, presenting both men and women as overtly sexualized beings. Speaking about the song, Ingrid mentions,“’Girls Chase Boys’ started out as a break-up song but took on a deeper meaning as I continued writing. More than just being about my experience, its focus shifted to include the idea that, no matter who or how we love, we are all the same. Girls don’t exclusively chase boys. We all know this. We all chase each other and in the end we are all chasing after the same thing: love.”

All the broken hearts in the world still beat

Let’s not make it harder than it has to be

Ohh, it’s all the same thing

Girls chase boys chase girls

Coming to the video of this song, it is shot as a homage to Robert Palmer’s, late ’80s hit, “Simply Irresistible,” in which a well-dressed Palmer lip syncs while dozens of painted female faces look bored behind him. Michaelson’s version matches the original, nearly frame for frame — with a conga line of shimmying princes punctuated by close shots of models wearing languid, red shimmery lips who appear equally, disinterested. Michaelson is, of course, decked out in a killer suit with leopard print cuffs. But the real achievement of Michaelson’s video is the fact that she (and the shot) treat all of her backup dancers equally.

The message of the song is earnest, fun, and important: We all try really hard to impress each other, and sometimes we don’t, but we’ll get over it. After all, ’It’s all the same thing’. 😊

So, let’s begin this month of February by celebrating LOVE in all its complicated, energizing, and inter-twisted forms.

This is an extremely addictive song! You’ll end up singing it as a nursery rhyme in the girls’ bathroom with your friend, loitering around you, speculating whether you’re being possessed by  a spirit! #TrueStory😂
